Summary: The Curriculum Development Contractor supports Kid Power’s efforts to create and maintain quality standards-based curriculum. They work with Senior Staff to create differentiated and leveled curriculum for use during Kid Power school-year programming. The Curriculum Developer is responsible for producing engaging; hands-on; and themed standards-based STEM and/or Citizenship lessons, as well as editing and reviewing previously made Kid Power curriculum for future program implementation.

Deliverables:

Curriculum Development

  • Work with Kid Power’s Program and Assistant Program Director to create leveled STEM and/or civics curriculum for 2nd – 8 th grade students.
  • Create 35 “global” and 35 “national” STEM based lessons
  • STEM lessons will aim (but are not limited) to teach students about:
  • Scientific method and design process
  • Science experiments
  • Chemistry
  • Physics
  • Engineering
  • Create 25 “global” and 25 “national” themed civic based lessons
  • Civic lessons will aim (but are not limited) to teach students about:
  • Forms of government
  • Public speaking and debate skills
  • Workforce development  Social issues and current events
  • Activism and advocacy
  • Develop curriculum in accordance with Common Core Standards 
  • Create lessons that utilize limited resources and materials

Curriculum Revision and Editing 

  • Provide recommendations to improve quality of previously created Kid Power STEM and/or Citizenship lesson plans (methods, engagement, staff implementation, materials)
  • Expand Kid Power’s “Micro” and “Macro” service-learning curriculum
  • Review and provide feedback for Kid Power’s “PowerBlazers” workforce development curriculum

Requirements 

  • 3-5 years of curriculum development experience 
  • Knowledge of Common Core Standards 
  • Knowledge of DCPS demographics  Education Degree preferred

Compensation

  • Rate: Contracted at $30/hour, up to 30 hours/week for 12 weeks 
  • Contract Amount: $5,000
