Happy New Year!  In just a few weeks, 2016 has proven to be an exciting year of change and growth for Kid Power.   And now that we're digging out from record amounts of snow here in DC, we’re ready to take on new challenges and share some exciting new developments with you!

MLK Day of Service

“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: what are your doing for others?”
-Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Kid Power students and families along with volunteer students and families from Georgetown Day School and Sidwell Friends School answered Dr. King’s call to service by celebrating MLK Day with a Day of Service last Monday.

Together, they assembled care kits of hygiene essentials, made healthy lunches, and packaged them together with letters of encouragement. They then distributed these packages to community members experiencing homelessness.

Providing opportunities for service, leadership, and civic engagement are at the core of our mission. We’re so proud and so grateful that Kid Power students and our wonderful community volunteers braved the cold to come out and help those in need to honor Dr. King’s legacy.

New Year, New Kid Power

New Website: Our website got a facelift! Explore our beautiful new website to learn more about our programs and students served, upcoming events, how you can get involved with Kid Power, and more! And, for more on our impact, success stories, and recent developments, check out our 2015 Annual Report here!

New School Sites: This month, Kid Power is launching new programing at LaSalle-Backus Education Campus and is expanding services at Houston Elementary School. Both of these schools are in Northeast DC and serve high-need student populations, with 99% on the free or reduced price lunch program. We're eager to bring our innovative programming to these new students to help them become advocates for change in their community!

New Office: We moved! We're thrilled to announce that we have officially opened a second office location in the revitalizing Southwest quadrant of DC. This space was generously donated by the E St. Development Group. In our new office, we have more meeting space, an open work station concept, and quicker access to many of our school sites.
